How to Participate
We are experimenting with software from a company called Sputnik that will hopefully make it easier for interested people to added open WiFi access points in their homes. Sputnik access points contact a central server (which we are hosting) for their configuration. This means you can plug in a Sputnik access point in to your existing internet connection and not have to worry about configuration – the access point will contact the WiFiCharlottetown server and configure itself!
You don’t need to have a Sputnik-compatible access point to participate. Alternatively, you can open up your access point to all mac addresses and turning off WEP [IMPORTANT NOTE: turning off these security features does come at the cost of security] (if these terms don’t mean anything to you, contact one of us and we’ll do our best to help). We also suggest naming your network WiFiCharlottetown.org, as this will help any users know that they are welcome to use your access point and points them to this website for more information.
